Beyond the Camera

PHOTOJOURNALISM is a form of journalism that employs photography so as to put into picture a significant human-interest story. For some, photojournalism is as simple as the collaboration of photography and journalism. But I believe, photojournalism is more than that. "..photojournalism. It destroys almost all barriers. Justice can draw its sword in the time it takes an eye to scan an image. An image has no age, language or intelligence limits. " -Mark M. Hancock Photojournalism is not just about photography and journalism alone. It is deeper than the knee-high flood in a squatter's area dwelling around the city. It is more than the bunch of traffic jams around the metropolis. Photojournalism is the very details of the sag face of an old woman figuring her way out of the flood over the trails of poverty at the edge of an uncompromising city. It is not just about the subject framed through the lenses of the cameras but about the edifying actions, still lives in every scenario and the life beyond every image captured. Photojournalism is a factual art. ..a narration of millions of untold stories. ..a mirror beyond every visual spectrum that depicts reality. ..a medium that affects one's consciousness and a medium of awareness. ..an art not for an art's sake. Photojournalism is much atypical than the customary portraits of the society, much distant from the images of neutrality and a genuine reflection of reality. Photojournalism is a challenge. Like other forms of journalism, it sides with the truth and the people.
